Foreword


This document (EN 14420—5:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 218 “Rubber and plastics hoses and hose assemblies”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI.

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by May 2005, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by May 2005.

1    Scope


This document specifies requirements for hose fittings with clamp units according to EN 14420-1 with union nut and pipe thread according to EN ISO 228-1 as well as for hose tails according to EN 14420-2 with male pipe thread according to EN ISO 228-1.

Maximum working pressure 25 bar, maximum working temperature 65 °C.

These hose fittings shall be in accordance with Figures 1 to 3 and Tables 1 and 2.

6    Materials

6.1    General

Whatever the kind of manufacturing procedure is, the minimum mechanical characteristics shall be equivalent to the mechanical characteristics of forgings (in case of aluminium and brass), investment casting (in case of stainless steel) using the materials specified in this document.

Other suitable materials may be agreed. If nothing else is agreed in the order, the choice of the above mentioned materials is at the option of the manufacturer.

6.2    Hose tails and union nuts

Hose tails and union nuts shall be made of the following materials:

—    Non-alloyed steels

6.3    Balls

        Balls shall be made of the following material:

6.4    Sealing rings

The material of the seal rings shall be suitable for the fluid contained. It shall be agreed at the order.

Use non-asbestos materials for gaskets.


7    Marking


The hose tails and union nuts in stainless steel shall be marked legibly and permanently with the following information:

outside

—    EN 14420-5;
—    manufacturers name or trademark;
—    nominal size;
—    material number.

The marking of hose tails and union nuts in other materials may be agreed and be performed as given above.

8    Type approval testing and quality control


Shall be accordingly to EN 14420-1.
